There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not legal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that features many conveniences on top of the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
